Saurabh Dwivedi of "India Today" gave it 3 out 5 stars stating that "Chetan Bhagat's Peepli Live is a perfect blend of cinéma vérité and cinematic realism." Sonil Dedhia of Rediff. com gave the movie three out of five stars, saying that "Peepli Live" was "funny and thought-provoking but the weak screenplay falters in the second half".
